Why This Referendum
In past years, West Lafayette voters have approved a local referendum tax rate to generate the funds necessary to provide quality education in our community. Recently, the state legislature passed laws that will reduce the revenue generated by that tax rate. To keep funding steady, it will be necessary to vote for a new referendum rate.
After extensive review of the district's finances and long-term projections, the School Board determined that an operating referendum is the responsible path forward. This measure is designed to close the funding gap created by the state's changes and protect the programs, class sizes, and staff that make our schools exceptional — without relying on unsustainable cuts.
Chris Campbell
"I support the 2026 West Lafayette Community School referendum because I believe our community understands that strong public schools are essential to our children’s future. Every child deserves access to a high-quality public education, and no child should be left behind because of cuts to education funding.
Our schools need the resources, educators, and support necessary to meet the diverse needs of every student. Investing in public education is an investment in our children, our community, and our future. We must make sure that funding decisions never come at the expense of the students who need our schools the most."
